Julieta Racket reviving Argentina's artisinal textile and weaving skills through her knitwear brand, nido

A graphic designer by trade, it was Julieta's father, a specialist in the "cooperative" movement here in Argentina, who kick-started the idea for a home-grown and home-made artisinal textiles line. When he showed her some reels of raw wool collected by one of the women's groups he worked with, she saw the opportunity to set up nido - using her design background and collaborating with skilled Argentine artisans.

Julieta began researching the different types of wool, talking to these women's cooperatives based in different provinces around Argentina and planning out some designs to see what the women could come up with.

Her focus was to do what is quite mainstream elsewhere but only just getting going here in Argentina - to revive artisinal skills of weaving and knitting to produce contemporary and modern knitwear.

She uses local cotton and wool which is then hand-spun and hand-dyed and produced in small batches .

Two years later and Julieta this year released a new line, Telar, with a collection of some very cool woven ponchos and throws to complement nido's knitwear range of cardigans and structured jumpers.
